Since
our launch in 1981, Oxford Brookes University Sub-Aqua Club (OBUSAC)
has successfully trained more than 200 divers. Our current membership
of around 60 people includes more than 25 active divers at various
levels of skill. Anyone can join, from complete beginners to experienced
divers with many years experience. If you have trained with another
diver training organisation such as PADI, CMAS or SAA; no worries,
you can 'cross over' and become BSAC
qualified too. |
| The
club is a local branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC). It is
run with the help of Brookes Sports who provide storage space for
our equipment, rooms for diving theory training plus access to transport
for diving trips and a comfortable (non-smoking) bar to meet and have
a drink every Tuesday night! |
|
 |
OBUSAC
has its own equipment including 16 sets of scuba gear, an air compressor
and a 5.3m Rigid Inflatable Boat [RIB]. We have won the OBU Best Outdoor
Pursuits Club of the Year three times in succession (1999, 2000 &
2001) and our Diving Officer has also won the OBU Coach of the Year
award (see pics). |
| Membership
is open to anyone - students, ex-students or non-students, although
the number of new members taken on in any year is limited by the number
of trainers we have available. We welcome people new to diving, BSAC
qualified divers or divers 'crossing-over' from other training organisations
such as PADI, CMAS, SAA, etc. Once you've joined we'll start training
you to dive safely and effectively. |
 |
 |
The
club is run by its members, for its members. Regular diving trips
are arranged throughout the year and we organise social events including
an annual club dinner, BBQ's, ten pin bowling and curry evenings.
