The following list gives details of BSAC Instructor grades and the Diver grades necessary to gain entry.

Assistant Club Instructor (ACI) (Entry level - Sports Diver)
A diver who has attended a BSAC Instructor Training Course.

Club Instructor (Entry level - Dive Leader)
An instructor who is competent in teaching diving in a pool or sheltered water training environment and the classroom, and who possesses an appropriate level of theoretical knowledge.

Open Water Instructor (Entry level - Dive Leader + Club Instructor)
A Club Instructor who has additionally been trained to teach diving skills in open water.

Advanced Instructor (Entry level - Advanced Diver + Open Water Instructor + Boat Handling Course attendance)
An instructor who is competent in teaching skills associated with open water diver training including dive organisation, boat handling, classroom teaching techniques and who possesses an appropriate level of theoretical knowledge.

National Instructor (Entry level - First Class Diver + Advanced Instructor)
An instructor who is competent in all aspects of diver and dive instructor training and assessment. National Instructors have wide practical diving experience coupled with an extensive theoretical knowledge.
