Membership
of OBUSAC is open to anyone over the age of 14 years - subject to
the committees approval (you'll need parental consent if you're
under 18). Students can find us at the beginning of the Autumn term,
at the 'Fresher's Fair' in the Brookes Sports Centre. Here you can
have a chat and find out more about the club from existing members.
You'll also find details of where to attend our 'Introductory
Talk' and a 'Suck it & See' sessions.
These allow people new to the sport to do just that... find out
more, try it and see what you think. If you want to get in touch
but can't get to the Freshers Fair, follow this
link to find out how you can contact us.

A
reasonable level of fitness is required for diving and the club
positively encourages members to get & stay fit during your
time with us. All members are required to sign an annual declaration
to certify their fitness to dive, listing any relevant health problems
&/or medication(s) they have been prescribed. The Membership
Sec. will take you through the form in one of the first sessions.
(Full disclosure is the responsibility of the individual. Non-disclosure
of health problems is not in the interests of any individual and
is illegal.)

The
Membership Secretary will explain fully how to become a member of
BSAC/OBUSAC at one of the first full sessions in the Autumn term.
During this you will be given a form to fill in and asked to pay
the membership fees in cash or by cheque. Members have to join the
British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) and OBUSAC itself. We do, however,
try to keep costs to a minimum as the majority of our members are
(or have been) students on a very limited budget.
|
|
On
joining new members receive a membership pack including:-

Qualification Record Book
Safe Diving booklet
Details of the BSAC travel insurance
scheme
BSAC Visa card application details
You
will also receive 12 months free subscription to BSAC's Dive magazine,
discounts on books purchased from BSAC and after a few weeks, you'll
receive your Diver Qualification Card.
|
|
New
divers will also need to purchase two training manuals:-
Club & Sports Diver Student Study Book
Sport Diving - BSAC Diving Manual
The
actual costs of joining BSAC, OBUSAC & of the training materials
are detailed below. These charges go towards BSAC's continual development
of the training programme and the provision of teaching materials,
certification and OBUSAC's basic third party liability insurance.
The OBUSAC membership fees help pay for the club's administration
costs, additional training materials, equipment purchase and maintenance,
room and pool hire, hire of transport, etc.

Many
people maintain their membership of OBUSAC after leaving Brookes,
and continue to develop their diving skills. All members are encouraged
to help with the administration and organisation of the club. Some
individuals go on to take BSAC club instructor
exams.
If
you have any queries about membership, please use this
